THE SONGS

All but a few of my introductions are named after songs I grew up with.  I know a lot of you are too young to remember the glory days of rock 'n roll, so I've included some links to some of the songs.  They're a bit dated now,  but I was just starting college in the early 60's when many of them were new.

In no particular order:

'Happy Feet' Wow.  I named this  plant after a song in The King of Jazz, a movie from 1930.  Obviously  way before my time, but you've just got to  watch this video.

'Hocus Pocus' by Focus  was 'our song' when Jennifer and I first started dating back in the early 70's.  I dare you to watch the video all the way through,

'Purple Rain'  by Prince. This one came out when I was almost grown up, in 1984. Not exactly old time rock 'n roll.  I've seen it described as a mix of pop rock, R&B, and funk-pop psychedelia.   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TvnYmWpD_T8

'Angel from Montgomery' is a country classic introduced by John Prine in 1971, but the best known version is from Bonnie Raitt.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s4S1Q1vfngA

'Barracuda' by Heart.  Loved Heart.  Saw this one live at the Maryweather Post  Pavilion in Maryland  in 1986.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PeMvMNpvB5M

'Buttercup Baby'  The song is actually Build Me Up Buttercup, by The Foundations, from 1968, but the first line in the lyrics is 'Why do you build me up, buttercup baby'.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A19350JoiE8 .

'Calling Elvis' by Dire Straits.  I bugged my mother until she bought me my first 78rpm record - 'Hound Dog' and 'Don't be Cruel'. back when I was about 12 years old, maybe 1957.
