EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW, EVERYTHING
EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW, EVERYTHING
All of my sales are through the internet. In case you missed it in the home page, I'm sorry but this is a one-man show and I can't accommodate telephone or in-person sales.
Payment is by credit card or PayPal at the time of the order.
Minimum order is $50.00.
I will acknowledge your order by email. If you have any questions you can email me at chickshostas@gmail.com.
SHIPPING
I generally ship plants bare-root by Priority Mail. Small plants may be shipped in quart nursery containers. Shipping charges are $12.00 for all orders under $100. Orders of $100 or more are shipped free.
Priority Mail is much better than it was a few years ago, but it's still the Post Office. When I receive your order I will send you an email with the scheduled ship week. If you prefer a later week, you can let me know by return email. If you are having a hosta emergency and need your plants earlier, I'll try, but it's that old one man show thing again. If you need to correct, cancel, add to, or change an order that you have placed, please email me as soon as possible.
When your plants are shipped I will send you a tracking number. Your plants will usually arrive three or four days after shipment, maybe sooner if you live close by, but it can occasionally take longer. Plants that take more than a week or so may show some leaf damage, but the damage is generally cosmetic and new growth will be fine. Hostas are really strong plants. I do not cut all of the leaves off when shipping. Removing the leaves does not damage the plant, they will regrow, but customers often don't like it. If the plants are delayed and arrive with damaged leaves, you can cut them off and they will regrow, but unless they are completely dead or discusting, I recommend leaving them on because they will still produce food for the plants.
If you are concerned about the condition of the plants on arrival, you can return them for a full refund. If there is a problem or you are not satisfied for any reason, you must contact me within 10 days of receipt and I'll let you know how to return them.
I'm sorry but I do not ship to AK, AZ, CA, CO, HI, ID, MT, NM, NV, OR, UT, WA, WY , or outside the U.S.

The plants listed are divided into three main categories, my named introductions, streaked seedlings, all container grown, and occasionally, some of my favorite older plants from my gardens that I did not introduce . Some of these are plants that have been around a long time and while they are no longer widely available, they are certainly worth growing.
MY INTRODUCTIONS:
All of my introductions listed here are originator's stock (OS), and I am the originator. Very few of my plants are available anywhere else. I do not have my plants propagated by tissue culture. A small number have been tc'd by someone else, but I no longer offer them. I have nothing against tissue culture, but as a collector, I like new things that aren't in every Home Depot (not that they have ever been interested in selling any of my plants).
Single plants of new introductions are often offered first on the Hosta Auction Group on Facebook (facebook.com/groups/234948170600115) or at the annual American Hosta Society online auction, which is held each year in January (americanhostasociety.org). From time to time I offer plants that are sports that I have found that come from plants I did not originate, but nearly all of the plants listed here come from my breeding efforts.
I know they're expensive, especially the new ones. In the 40 or so years of doing this, I have only named about 50 plants, and since some of those have been discarded or haven't been introduced yet, I'm lucky to introduce more than one or two new plants a year. It takes years to go from the first "oh, thats nice" to introduction, so they can't be cheap.
Unless otherwise noted the plants offered here will be single-eye divisions because I generally don't have enough plants to give anything larger.
STREAKED SEEDLINGS:
I have been hybridizing with streaked plants for many years and have accumulated hundreds of different streakers. I try to choose only the best ones to offer here. Since streaked hostas can change significantly from year to year, I take new pictures each year. When you order a streaked plant from our web site, you will see a picture of the plant I will ship. It may have grown since I took the picture, but it will be the same plant.
