This is our big yellow truck. Boy, we put some miles on this thing. This is the last of 17 round trips. At 120 miles each way, it comes out to about 4000 miles.
Everything is here now and all we have to do is figure out where it is and where it's supposed to be.

One of the first things you need to do when you build a nursery is get yourself a golf cart. Tooling around on a golf cart is half the fun of running a nursery. Man, these things will go anywhere. And when someone is looking for you, you can be out of sight in no time. Plus, it has four cup holders!
Always carry a plant in back so it looks like you're doing something important.

July 10
The other half of the fun is tooling around on a tractor. You really gotta have a tractor. You can move things with it, cut grass, dig holes. You can do all kinds of things. Or you can just ride around on it and let everyone else think you're working. Make sure they give you a baseball cap too. It comes with the tractor.

First we need some shade. It finally stopped raining, so it's time to start building stuff. This is the first of our three shade houses, so we named it Shade House #1.

This is going to be our propagation greenhouse. Another important point to remember when building your nursery is to make sure you have enough kids around to do the work. Management's primary responsibility at this point is to tool around on the golf cart taking pictures of people working.

We're rolling now. This is going to be the main growing area. The truck driver who brought the stone was afraid that he'd get stuck in the mud. We just couldn't stand to wait any longer so we convinced him that there was no danger. I can't believe he made it, but fortunately, he didn't get stuck and we got our first seven loads of stone. What we didn't tell him was that we got the Penske stuck in the mud not long before this and the tow truck that came to pull us out got stuck too. Really. We had to call another tow truck to get the first tow truck out of the mud.
That's the first of 12 hoop houses that will go up in this area, but it's actually named Hoop House #4.

August 4
And as usual, just as we were making some progress, here comes the rain again. We were working on the third house in this group when it started pouring.

August 8
So far, we have one shade house up... It's hard to tell by this picture, but believe it or not this thing will hold 16 thousand quart pots when it's full. That will be as soon as we find the rest of the plants we brought.

Plus 5 hoop houses, a propagation house, and a storage shed. We're on our way. It's finally starting to look like a nursery. We've got more hoop houses to put up, but notice the clouds coming in over the mountain. It's going to rain again.

It finally stopped raining.
